But then we checked out the website for Plan Toys and fell in love with all the cool, well designed, green, wood toys they have. The long hot days of summer call for a cool and fun activity. Make popsicles with the kids out of your favorite fruits. Prefer a creamsicle? Just add yogurt. (Did you know National Creamsicle Day is August 14th?) Or the one we are dying to try, green tea root beer. Buy some molds, we're old school, we like the rockets, and start chillin!

Modern Crib- AJ Collection

Ana Ortiz's modern nursery was in US Weekly recently. Ana plays Ugly Betty's sister on the show of the same name. Her designer, Amanda Moore of Re:place, specified eco friendly furniture from ducduc's AJ Collection for Ana's nursery. A natural walnut and white crib, and a natural walnut and white four drawer changing table give the room plenty of storage and the walnut finish adds depth and anchors the room nicely. Stay tuned for more modern nursery design ideas!

We get a lot of requests for art for the kids rooms. And this is one of our favorite resources. NewEditions offers numbered editions of colorful, sophisticated, and yet playful prints from selected artists. Modern graphics to animals- we like them all! We know buying art can be intimidating but their website is informative, so you know exactly what you are getting. Look for a New Edition event in our renovated Soho showroom this fall. In the meantime check them out. And start collecting!

We love the new iphone application, ColorSnap or Color Capture. Upload either the Sherwin-Williams ColorSnap or Benjamin Moore Color Capture application for your iphone, whichever you prefer. Then take a photo of your favorite room or color with your iphone or use a photo from your existing photo library. The application will give you a spectrum of colors that match the image. And it will save your favorite colors, recommend coordinating palettes, and map the nearest retailer from the GPS on your phone. Did we mention its free?

Grab the kids and the barf bag and head to New York's Central Park Wolman rink, where you can ride the rides, eat some cotton candy, and let loose for an afternoon with the family. Newfangled rides like the Kiteflyer, the Convoy, the Buzzjet, and the Hydro racer will keep the kids entertained for hours. Alas, no Tilt-a-whirl. Maybe you won't need the barf bag...

Sunday on the Park!

The first phase of the Highline Park in downtown Manhattan is getting ready to open. The elevated park is an old railroad that cuts a path from the West Village through Chelsea. It will feature organic landscape design, and lounge chairs for relaxing. (the other elevated park on an old railroad is in Paris, the Promenade Planee) The rules - leave the dog at home, no bikes, blades or skateboards, and don't feed the birds! Enter on Ganesvoort, 14th St., or 23rd St. and enjoy!
